The second edition reworks the chapters on the consonant system in the light of material that emerged from the digitisation of the Shkodër holdings, and adds a complete chapter on prosody written by Lorenc Prendushi. That chapter was entirely absent from the first edition, which the author now calls "a gap that should not have been left".

The co-authorship of this edition is limited to the new chapter and to the reworking of the section on stress; the remainder is the first author’s work. That division is marked inside the text as well as on the title page.
