Author guidelines

What we publish, how long a piece may be, how sources and figures are handled, what happens after acceptance, and how your name is kept.

What we publish

BlogBox publishes short academic studies, essays, argued analysis, reviews and research notes. It is not a blog in the ordinary sense: every piece carries identifiable authorship, passes through the editors, keeps the references the text itself calls for, and is given a permanent address.

The final wording of this section is still being written by the editors.

Length and form

There is no single required length. A research note may be short; an argued analysis is usually longer because it carries its evidence inside it. A piece may use subheadings, pull quotes, credited figures and footnotes.

Sources and figures

References are written as the text requires and are published with it. Every figure must carry its own credit — without one it is not published, because a credit is an obligation to whoever permitted the reproduction rather than an editorial detail.

What happens after acceptance

The piece is read by the editors, who may ask for changes before approving it. After publication its address never changes: if the title is reworded, the old address goes on leading to the piece. A factual error is corrected with a dated notice above the text, and the original is not removed.

Your name and your rights

Authorship is held in a record of its own rather than as free text: your name can change without breaking a single previously published link. Your author page lists every piece you have here.

Getting in touch

SUBMISSIONS THROUGH THIS PAGE ARE NOT YET OPEN. There is no submission form yet, and a page inviting work with nowhere for it to arrive would be a promise we could not keep. The channel by which proposals will be accepted will be announced here as soon as it is settled.
