Nora O'Callaghan

University College Dublin, School of Classics

An epigrapher working on funerary formulae in the western Balkans and directing the corpus of Dukagjin plain inscriptions.

Nora O’Callaghan came to the Albanian material through Latin formulae of mercy and stayed. Her corpus gathers four hundred and ninety funerary inscriptions, each transcribed, translated and annotated, with an onomastic index that is probably the most used part of the book.

She insists that a corpus must also be published as searchable text, and that a transcription without its photograph is a claim without evidence. Both requirements delayed publication by two years.
