Dmitry Volkov

Moscow State University, Institute of Byzantine Studies

A Byzantinist writing on Byzantine architectural heritage in the western Balkans and on the circulation of models between provincial centres.

Dmitry Volkov has published for twenty years on late Byzantine church building, with a particular interest in what he calls "the province that did not know it was a province" — the Balkan centres that reworked Constantinopolitan models without copying them.

His contribution to the KASP volume appears in Russian with a parallel translation, an arrangement the editors chose after the author asked that the original text remain readable.
